The Anahuac Mayab University and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, through the Organizing Committee, welcome you to Geosynthetics & Coasts 2015, the Third International Workshop on Geosynthetics and Modern Materials in Coastal Protection and Related Applications, to be held in Mérida, Yucatán, México. Supported by the International Association of Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), this series of biennial meetings aims at providing a platform for experts and other stakeholders to exchange cutting-edge knowledge on the use of geosynthetics and related materials to protect shorelines, coastal infrastructure and natural systems, as well as to carry out engineering projects under the challenging conditions posed by coastal environments.
As is common throughout the World, Mexico and other Latin American countries face important challenges in coastal protection. Thus, it is of the utmost importance that professionals and decision makers in our nations gain access to state-of-the-art information and experience from other regions. In this effort, local and international manufacturers, and the technical experts and scientists who test their products in both field and lab, play a key role. Needless to say that passing on that knowledge to future professionals is what will ultimately result in the wider use and development of new geosynthetic materials and innovative applications in coastal protection.
Yucatán is a land rich in attractions, ranging from spectacular Mayan archeological sites like Chichen Itzá and Uxmal, to beautiful cities with a deep historical legacy such as Mérida, known as the White City; Izamal, one of Mexico’s “Magical Towns”, the colonial city of Valladolid, and the port of Progreso, just a 20-min drive away from Mérida.
We trust you will have a pleasant and interesting workshop and enjoy a memorable stay in Mérida.
